The following is a complete guide to add custom .com.np domain on blogger site using cloudflare CDN.
Step by Step Guide To Host .com.np Domain with Blogger
The following is the Step by Step Guide on how to host .com.np domain with Blogger. Follow each steps carefully to successfully complete the process. Do not act alternatively, if you do not know what are you doing before .com.np domain gets hosted on Blogger.
Create an Account on Cloudflare
Creating an account on cloudflare is very easy. It requires an email address and a mixed and secured password.
You can go to cloudflare.com. Once the homepage is fully loaded, you need to check for the sign up option under the menu and click on it.
Or, go to https://dash.cloudflare.com and click on sign up then provide required information to sign up.
Once you click on the sign up option, it redirects to Cloudflare dashboard even without verification of email. But, it is recommended to verify the email.
Add Domain On Cloudflare Account
After a successful sign up, there will be an option to add a domain.
Click on the add domain option. Type the domain name without www or http:// or https:// which should appear like domainname.com.np and click on the add domain button available along with the text area.
Select Cloudflare Free Plan
After adding domain, cloudflare shows its 4 plans including one free ($0) plan which does not require to set a payment method. Select the free plan.
Though the paid plans provide some extra security and features, the free plan is more than enough as you are going to use cloudflare as a DNS manager not as a security tool.
As blogger is owned by Google, Blogger is already a secured content management system with Google’s own security and cloudflare security is not that important.
After you select the free plan and proceed further, it starts checking available DNS records and adds all the available DNS records, if any.
What does that mean ?
If the domain is previously hosted somewhere it will add all existing DNS records of that domain so that it could minimize down time of the site after changing nameservers to point Cloudflare.
But in case the domain is completely new and currently not hosted anywhere, no DNS records will be added.
In our case the domain is not active and you are willing to use it as a custom domain on Blogger. Therefore, there will not be any DNS records.
Even if you find these records, you can delete them.
Change the Nameservers to Host .com.np domain with Blogger
After successfully adding a domain on cloudflare account, it instructs you to remove the existing nameservers on our domain and add the provided two nameservers for your account.
The nameservers provided by cloudflare for each accounts are unique and looks like the following samples
*Bold part varies for different accounts and others remain the same.
( you can use custom nameservers only if the plan is paid.)
To change the nameservers, follow these steps
-Go to register.com.np and log in to the account.
-In case of already logged in users, go to dashboard.
-Under the Active Domain tab, select the domain added on cloudflare.
-Click on change dns setting.
-Add nameservers as provided by cloudflare.
-Make sure that the nameserver field does not contain any spaces before and after the name.
-Save the nameservers records
-Now it will show Under DNS Modification under the status tab.
-DNS records are generally updated by the registrar within 5:00 pm.
-After the nameservers are processed for change, the registrar sends an automated mail on registered email to inform about such changes.
The new nameservers should start working within a few minutes of receipt of mail. In very rare cases it takes upto 72 hours to work.
To ensure whether the nameservers are successfully updated, it can be checked using DNS checker tools like intodns.com or from any dns checker site.
Or you can open cloudflare account, and check whether the domain is active or showing pending nameservers update.
If it shows pending nameservers update, then check the domain nameservers status on any DNS checker.
If it shows that the domain is already pointing to cloudflare’s nameservers then go Cloudflare, click on domain name and scroll down and click on check for nameserver update.
Wait for a maximum of 1 hour, it will again check if the DNS records updated, it will find the domain is already pointing to your cloudflare account and the domain will shown as active.
If domain status is active then you can proceed for the next step.
Add Domain To Host .com.np Domain with Blogger
The custom domain adding process is very simple. To add a custom domain follow the steps below.
- -Go to blogger, select the Blog you are willing to add your custom domain.
- Go to Setting and find the Custom Domain setting under Publishing option and click on it.
- Add your custom domain in the text input field.
Make sure you are adding domain with www and no http or https. Then it should look like this.
Adding CNAME Records to Host your .com.np Domain With Blogger
Finally, go to dash.cloudflare.com and log in to your account, if you are logged out.
Under the Home tab you will be able to see a list of your domains, if you have added multiple.
Select the .com.np you wanted to host with Blogger. The following interface will appear.
Then go to the DNS menu and click on the [Add record] button.
After you click on the Add record button a drop down for the “Type” of DNS will appear, select CNAME from the dropdown and in Name field type www and in the Target field type ghs.google.com.
You can enable or disable proxy status by clicking on the cloud icon. Make sure there are no spaces before, after and in between these texts.
Similarly add another CNAME record using name and destination provided by the blogger in the error message which is unique for every domain.
While adding DNS records, you will see that there is an icon with a cloud symbol and arrow passing through it which means connection on your site will flow through Cloudflare.
But if you keep this enabled, it will take little bit longer time to add the custom domain on Blogger.
As I mentioned before, Blogger site does not need any additional security, you can disable proxy and use DNS only mode and save both the CNAMEs.
You can also enable proxy, if you want to use more features from cloudflare like installing extra scripts such as popup notice, cookies consent to comply with EU-GDPR, etc.
After saving CNAME records, wait for a few minutes and save the domain or come back after a few minutes on Blogger and add the domain and you will be able to save the domain without getting an error message.
If this doesn’t work check if the CNAME records contains any error, if you detect any error then fix it and try again.
Rarely, it takes upto 24 hours for the domain to work with Blogger.
Add A Records (Optional)
If you want your blog to resolve both in www or non www form (www.example.com. or example.com), you can add A records which will make your blog resolve under www.
In the name field type your domain name without www and use the following IPv4 address without enabling proxy and making ttl minimal.
The IPv4 Address are
If you think this is a lengthy process, exactly you are thinking right because you can use www.yourdomainname.com.np from the blogger setting.
To enable this go to Blogger’s settings. Under “Publishing” you can find the Redirect domain setting, just enable it and you are done. Now you can access your blog form both www or non www version.
Using Secure Connection for the connected .np domain with Blogger
You can go to the Blogger setting and enable https redirect as soon as your domain is added to Blogger to ensure your reader that your blog is secured.
If you have enabled proxy while adding CNAME then you can also do it from Cloudflare > SSL / TLS > Edge Certificate> Always Use HTTPS.
When you enable https redirect, your blog will get down for some minutes and start working under secured https protocol.
Note: If you are using proxied DNS, then you will need to enable https in blogger as well as Cloudflare. Otherwise, it will show too many redirections while accessing the site.
In case you have decided to use the proxied version i.e. driving traffic to your blog through Cloudflare. It will take a bit longer to resolve your domain.
Congratulations. Now You are on Blogger with your custom .com.np domain connected with Blogger.
